October Sunrise at Mackinac Island Grand Hotel

If you are in a beautiful place where you can enjoy sunrise and sunset, then you are living like a lord.

I am incredibly blessed to call a place where two beautiful Great Lakes hug the landscape and offer the privilege of watching both the sun rise and set from the same paces. As a lover of the sun, I find myself endlessly drawn to basking in its light and chasing it from horizon to horizon. And while northern Michigan's charm in the autumn is undeniable, it's the sun and its low glow that makes it truly captivating.

At the end of the season, my friend and I had the opportunity to stay at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel for an evening, which was an experience of its own. And while I've seen several sunsets throughout summer on the island, I've only had the chance to rise with the sun on Mackinac Island twice this year. Sunsets hold their own, let me tell you why a Mackinac Island sunrise should be on your list of to-dos next time you're visiting and why I absolutely love them.

First, there's something truly magical about experiencing the transition from night to day. The world emerges, brimming with possibilities and excitement.

Second, the crisp, cool air at dawn is like a breath of life. Even in the midst of summer, I find myself wrapped in a jacket or sweater, the morning breeze giving me energy and vitality for the day ahead.

But, the most enchanting part of sunrise on Mackinac Island specifically, is the tranquil moment in the air. As the sun lights up the sky, the island slowly stirs to life. It's a moment of pure wonder as the quiet streets gradually fill with movement, the clip-clop of the horse hooves as they make their way downtown, and early risers seeking their coffee.

So, the next time you find yourself on Mackinac Island, I urge you to set your alarm a little earlier and meet the sunrise outside. Trust me, it's a moment of stillness and peace you won't forget and you'll seek time and time again.
